Subaru Forester vs. Ford Escape: Engine & Performance

2018 Subaru Forester The Subaru Forester has two engine options: a four-cylinder and a more powerful turbocharged engine. Both engines use a boxer configuration. This piston layout reduces vibration, making them less susceptible to wear and tear; functions more smoothly, reducing fuel consumption and improving acceleration; and lowers the center of gravity, improving handling. Unlike the Escape, the Forester also comes standard with all-wheel drive.

The Ford Escape has a 2.5L inline-four on the base model, and two turbocharged inline-four engines available on higher trims. However, neither are as powerful as the Subaru's own turbocharged engine. In this table, we take a closer look at the standard engine options.
